How SOMAX Wireless Sensors Monitor Equipment

It’s smart:
Internet-enabled sensors placed on valuable assets and equipment provide data on performance and conditions, eliminating the need for maintenance personnel to waste time doing routine inspections.

It’s easy:
SOMAX users can view performance data via desktop or mobile device.  The system automatically generates work orders when early symptoms of a problem arise, complete with recommendations for how to fix it.

Here’s how it works:
You can put the Internet of Things to work for you in five easy steps.

1. Attached a SOMAX wireless sensor to the equipment or asset you’d like to monitor.
How the sensor is attached may vary, based on the equipment and environment.  Think your environment is too extreme?   Think again.  SOMAX has experience placing sensors designed to withstand commercial-grade cleaning, commercial oven heat and industrial manufacturing fluids.  No problem.  Also, the batteries in the sensors last for years.

2. Place the probe close to the motor.
Sensors can monitor a variety of conditions, including RPMs, vibration, humidity or temperature.  If you’d like to monitor the temperature of the motor, a probe connected to the wireless sensor can be placed close to the motor to ensure an accurate reading.

3. Make sure the sensor is communicating to the software.
SOMAX sensors can communicate through a WiFi or cellular network.  Set-up is a simple one-time step, then you’re up and running.

4. Set the intervals and thresholds.
SOMAX sensors can send updates on performance data as frequently (or infrequently) as needed, ranging from once every minute, hour, day, week or month.

SOMAX users can also set thresholds for alerts.  For example, a work order can be automatically generated if a motor runs above normal operating temperature.   The number of degrees above “normal” operating temperature can be customized.  Not sure how often and how much?  The experienced team at SOMAX can provide recommendations on setting update intervals and thresholds for assets and equipment.

5. See performance data and receive work order alerts.
Once the SOMAX system is up and running, your maintenance personnel can access performance data anytime, anywhere, via desktop or mobile device.  Time is no longer wasted doing routine inspections on assets and equipment monitored by SOMAX sensors.  Work order alerts are generated when early warning signs appear that a problem is escalating, complete with recommended next steps on how to solve the problem.  And everyone has a better work day proactively solving little problems before they escalate into bigger, more expensive issues.  Smart.
